Individual Therapy in Meridian, ID
Individual therapy with me is a collaborative, in-depth process of slowing down, making sense of your experiences, and understanding the patterns that shape how you see yourself and connect with others. Together, we’ll explore how you learned to adapt when important emotional needs weren’t met and how those protective coping strategies may have shaped the ways you relate to yourself and others, as well as your attachment style.
We have a map for where we’re going: toward greater security within yourself and in your relationships. Through a safe, supportive therapeutic relationship, we’ll work toward becoming more comfortable with vulnerability, developing a healthy dependence on the people you love, and building the confidence and security that allow you to stand more fully on your own.

Healing old wounds and moving from survival toward emotional freedom.
It can be exhausting to live in a constant state of hypervigilance, low self-worth, people-pleasing, or emotional numbness. Sometimes, what feels like an overwhelming mental health struggle may actually reflect a brilliant, adaptive survival strategy, one that developed when you were trying to meet your emotional needs in an environment that didn’t always feel safe, predictable, or supportive.
When early attachment relationships don’t provide the comfort, safety, or emotional support we need, we develop ways of coping that help us navigate the emotional world we’re given. We may shut down or disconnect from our emotions, panic and pursue others when we fear abandonment, or push people away when relationships begin to feel overwhelming or unsafe. These strategies often make sense in the context in which they developed, even when they no longer serve us in the present.
If you find yourself caught in chaotic “push-pull” relationship cycles, struggling with anxiety, depression, loneliness, the effects of past trauma, or a deep fear that there is something fundamentally wrong or unlovable about you, Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) may offer you a path to healing. Together, we’ll work toward greater emotional balance, a stronger sense of self, and more secure relationships with the people you love. EFIT can also provide support as you navigate major life transitions such as divorce, loss, or the postpartum period.

The Power of Attachment-Based Individual Therapy
Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) is a structured, specialized, attachment-based approach that helps you understand yourself more deeply, heal from painful experiences, and develop a more secure relationship with yourself and the people you care about. Together, we slow down enough to understand the emotions and patterns beneath your struggles and explore the deeper sources of pain and unmet needs that shape how you experience yourself and your relationships.
With EFIT, we have a map for where we are going. We know what we are working toward: greater security, emotional balance, meaningful connection, healthy interdependence, and the confidence to stand more fully on your own. We’ll move at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you, while staying focused on creating meaningful and lasting change.
The Power of Attachment-Based Individual Therapy
In a culture that often glorifies self-sufficiency and independence, the idea that healing may involve learning to rely on safe relationships can feel counterintuitive. But human beings are wired for connection. In fact, secure and supportive relationships are one of our greatest resources for developing confidence, resilience, and independence.
When we know we have trusted others we can turn to for comfort, support, and connection, we are better able to face life’s challenges. We can take risks, tolerate difficult emotions, and move through the world with a greater sense of security.
This is part of what makes the therapeutic relationship so important in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT). As your therapist, I strive to be a steady, compassionate presence—a safe base from which you can explore your emotional world. Together, we will explore how your experiences and relationships have shaped the way you see yourself, experience your emotions, and connect with others.
Understanding Your Patterns
Throughout our lives, we develop ways of coping with experiences that feel overwhelming, frightening, or painful. When important emotional needs for comfort, safety, reassurance, acceptance, or connection are not consistently met, we develop strategies to manage those feelings and protect ourselves.
Maybe you learned to become highly independent and stop asking for help. Maybe you became attuned to everyone else’s emotions, worked hard to keep the peace, stayed busy so you didn’t have to feel, or learned to push your own needs aside. You may find yourself pulling away when relationships become difficult—or working harder and harder to hold on when you fear someone might leave.
These responses can become so automatic that we may not realize they are ways of protecting ourselves.
In EFIT, we become curious about these strategies and explore what happened that made them necessary. In doing so, you can begin to understand yourself with greater compassion.
Moving Beyond Understanding to Experiencing
EFIT is an experiential therapy, which means we move beyond simply talking about your experiences. Together, we will revisit important moments or emotional wounds that continue to affect you. Rather than only understanding these experiences intellectually, we work toward helping you feel, understand, and experience them in a new way.
As you become more able to recognize and stay with difficult emotions, they can begin to feel more manageable. You can learn that you don’t have to avoid, suppress, or be overwhelmed by what you feel. Instead, you can develop the ability to move through difficult emotions with greater compassion, confidence, and emotional balance.
Creating New Possibilities
As you understand your emotions and the protective patterns that have developed around them, you can begin to respond differently.
You may notice an old pattern unfolding and have enough awareness to pause. You may recognize what you are feeling, understand what you need, and choose a response that is more consistent with who you want to be.
Over time, you can develop a more coherent and compassionate understanding of yourself—not as someone who is broken or defined by what happened to you, but as someone whose emotions, thoughts, and coping strategies make perfectly reasonable sense in the context of your experiences.
Ultimately, EFIT is about developing a more secure relationship with yourself and with others. As you become more aware of your emotions, needs, and patterns, you may find it easier to ask for what you need, set boundaries, tolerate vulnerability, trust yourself, and remain connected to others without losing yourself.
Healing doesn’t occur in isolation. Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) recognizes human connection as one of our greatest resources for healing. Through focused psychotherapy and the therapeutic relationship we build together, we create a place where you don’t have to perform, protect, or figure everything out alone.
Our relationship becomes part of the healing process—a space where you can feel understood, supported, and safe enough to turn toward parts of yourself you may have stifled, silenced, or hidden in shame. Together, we slow down, become curious about what you’re feeling, and gently explore what is happening beneath the surface. Over time, this creates an opportunity to experience yourself, your emotions, and your relationships in new ways.
The goal isn’t to become someone who never feels anxious, hurt, angry, or afraid. It’s to become someone who can experience those emotions without being overwhelmed or defined by them.
And the goal isn’t to become someone who no longer needs anyone. True security allows us to both stand on our own and lean on others when we need support. When we learn that it is safe to depend on others in healthy ways, we often become more confident in our ability to navigate life independently.
The goal in our work together is to become more fully alive—to experience yourself, your relationships, and your life more fully, while developing deeper connection with yourself and more secure connections with the people you love.
Together, we work toward a place where you can feel more secure within yourself, more confident in your relationships, and more able to create the kind of connection you long for—so that you can move from simply surviving toward a life with greater freedom, connection, and emotional ease.
If this sounds like a good fit, I would love to hear your story.
